Our take
Sunset Vista Lodge gives every room a kitchenette, a fireplace and a balcony, and guests keep praising the same thing: the sunset watched from the bed through a window that fills the wall. The lodge is listed about 6 km from Sky Adventures and about 8 km from Selvatura, so the hanging-bridge parks are a drive away and I would arrive with a car or plan on taxis. In exchange you get quiet evenings and that view. I would book it for couples and small families staying two or three nights, and skip it without wheels or if you want restaurants on the doorstep. Guests rate it 9.4 across 382 reviews.
- ✓The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve sells timed entries online, and your slot is the exact departure of its shuttle from the Visitor Center car park: arrive 15 minutes early or the shuttle leaves without you.
- ✓Use the kitchenette for an early breakfast and book the reserve's Natural History Walk, the guided option with naturalists, which runs from 7:30 am when the forest is at its quietest.
- ✓Ask the tour desk about the reserve's Night Walk at 6 pm, and note that the reserve shuttle does not serve it: you drive or take a taxi to the Visitor Center yourself.
Why we love it
- The serene garden and spacious terrace
- Private balconies with mountain views
- Cozy fireplace and relaxing hot tub in rooms
- Convenient kitchenettes for self-catering
Why guests love itSunset Vista Lodge works for families who want to cook and spread out, not for those looking for a kids' club. Each room has a kitchenette, a seating area, a balcony and a fireplace, which makes simple dinners and early breakfasts easy before a 7:30 am naturalist walk in the reserve. The garden and terrace give children room to move, there is a hot tub, and parking on site is free. The trade-off is location: the lodge is several kilometres from the main cloud forest parks, so every outing, from the hanging bridges at Selvatura to the reserve's Visitor Center, starts with a drive, and a fireplace and a balcony mean keeping an eye on toddlers. With a car and children old enough for forest trails, I find it a calm, practical base. Guests score it 9.4 from 382 reviews.
